How To Fix “IP Address Has Changed!” Error in cPanel

Leapswitch Networks Pvt. Ltd.

There are two possibilities why you would receive the error message “IP address has changed” from cPanel.

  • Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) has a short DHCP lease time which means your IP is changed frequently by your ISP (Usually this happen on a cellular network)
  • You are attempting to login to cPanel using the same account from two different devices.

The first thing you can do is log in again to Cpanel and check if this happens again. If the error occurs again then try below steps :

Note: You will need WHM Access to perform these action

Steps :

1. Login to WHM

2. Click on “Server Configuration” -> “Tweak Settings” -> “Security Tab”. Or search like in Image below

3. Search for “Cookie IP Validation”. For more information, you may click on the “?” sign Which reads: Validate the IP addresses used in all cookie-based logins. This will limit the ability of attackers who capture cPanel session cookies to use them in an exploit of the cPanel or WebHost Manager interfaces. For this setting to have maximum effectiveness, proxy domains should also be disabled.

  • Change the settings to “Loose” so reauthentication frequency will be less.
  • Change to Strict If you want to increase the frequency (This is default setting and this is what causes IP Address change issue)
  • The disabled option will completely turn off IP checking from cookies.

4. You can choose one of and click Save at bottom

Check by logging in If the issue is Solved.
